Anyone related to John Sayapi or his children Amos Roberts or Elizabeth Hopkins? I'm researching their Sisseton mother, Nape gi ki ye win who is also my great great grandmother. Napegikiyewin had a daughter named Sophie Archambeau who was given away. Wanted to know if anyone knows the real story of where Napegikiyewin is from. Thanks stephanie ssroonie@earthlink.net

Wow,.. I have lots to tell you and can look up a number of things for you. I have seen John Roberts probate a number of years ago and his sister Emma Bear is my great great grandmother. My grandma tells me that she remembers when JohnRoberts passed on. Prior to his passing he lived with his mother Wakanhdiwin at Enemy Swim. One Grandma told me she wondered if he had any white blood (I saw no reference to any) because she said he was very educated and she gestured to her top lip and made the marks of a mustache as if he had a long mustache. Elizabeth Hopkins was (grandma says Jepa ji sp?) cousin to her mother Jenny Bear. The Hopkins family is also very interesting and I foudn a great photo of Henry Hopkins and some great stories in a book called 100 years in Dakota. I have seen one researcher mix up John Roberts with the JohnRoberts who is talked about by Angela Cavendar Wilson. Not the same one. Our John Sayapi is buried at StJames and I do have a great old picture of his headstone before there were many graves there. Seems to me he must have a good man and cared for his mother. I am told he would come and get his niece Jennie to come and care for her wash her and tend to her.. driving all the way from teh Lake to Peever to get her.
